Fwd: Postfix with MySQL, a lot of "Aborted connection"

Danilo G. Baio

2018-07-02 15:11:06 8052 [Warning] Aborted connection 8733691 to db: 'my_database' user: 'my_user' host: 'localhost' (Got an error reading communication packets)
2018-07-02 15:11:06 8052 [Warning] Aborted connection 8733692 to db: 'my_database' user: 'my_user' host: 'localhost' (Got an error reading communication packets)
2018-07-02 15:11:24 8052 [Warning] Aborted connection 8733650 to db: 'my_database' user: 'my_user' host: 'localhost' (Got an error reading communication packets)
2018-07-02 15:11:31 8052 [Warning] Aborted connection 8733951 to db: 'my_database' user: 'my_user' host: 'localhost' (Got an error reading communication packets)

mysql> show status like 'Aborted%';
+------------------+-------+
| Variable_name    | Value |
+------------------+-------+
| Aborted_clients  | 23233 |
| Aborted_connects | 498   |
+------------------+-------+
2 rows in set (0.00 sec)

How reproduce these warnings:

mysql> set GLOBAL log_warnings=2;

A single `postfix reload` will trigger these warnings.

FreeBSD:
  postfix-3.3.1,1
  mysql56-server-5.6.40

CentOS:
  postfix-2.6.6-8.el6.x86_64
  mysql-community-server-5.6.38-2.el6.x86_64

Anyone knows why this happens?

Regards.

When a Postfix process terminates, it does not log out database
connections. I recommend that you turn off database error logging
for such things.

You also probably want to set an appropriate wait_timeout.  The default
if you have not set it yourself is 8 hours (28800 seconds).
